If you wish to study in a Tasmanian school or senior secondary college, your family may apply to GETI Tasmania themselves, or you may prefer to apply through a study agent. For a list of registered study agents in your country who deal with GETI Tasmania, click here ( link) .
If you are under 18, you must apply to study in a Tasmanian Government school, which offers education from:
Primary school – Grade 1 to 6 (Ages 5 – 11)
High school - Years 7 to 10 (Ages 12 – 15)
Senior secondary college – Years 11 and 12 (Ages 16 – 17)
These ages are a guide only. If you are over 18 may also enrol in a senior secondary college.
Not every school in the state is made available to international students, only those which are best able to cater for your needs. These schools are approved by GETI Tasmania and CRICOS registered to educate international students. If you have a preferred school or region you wish to study in, please tell us on your application form. It is alright if you do not have a preference. GETI Tasmania will offer you a choice based on your profile.
This information is of a general nature only. The application process may vary according to each individual’s circumstances and the country you are applying from. For more detailed advice on your own situation, please contact GETI for details ( link ).

(don't forget to SIGN THE APPLICATION FORM!)
You will then need to attach the following documents:
Current year academic report / academic report from previous year
Personal reference from current school, if possible
A copy of the front page of your passport. If you do not have a passport yet, please let us know.
A copy of your visa, if you are applying from within Australia.

Medical report, noting diagnosis and treatment of any existing conditions, if needed.
A print or digital photograph.
The application form includes a student profile, to be written by the student. This is one of the most important parts of the application form. Applications to study in Tasmanian Government schools are assessed on your academic performance alone, but also by your hobbies, your personality and any difficulties you may have experienced that we might be able to help with. The more information you give us, the better. If you run out of space, please include additional pages or files with your application.
If you are under 18, GETI Tasmania will act as your legal guardian while you are studying in Tasmania. This means you must live in a GETI-approved homestay with a local homestay host.
If you are under 18 and plan to live with a close relative in Tasmania as your legal guardian, GETI Tasmania requires a signed letter from your parents explaining the guardianship arrangement. For more information on guardianship, click here ( link ).
There are no formal English language pre-requisites for enrolment into Tasmanian Government schools and English as a Second Language (ESL) support is provided on campus.
Please indicate whether or not you will be using e-visa. Visa processes are set by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). To find out your country’s student visa requirements visit the DIAC website.
Please do not send original documents at first, although they may be requested later.
All applications and correspondence must be submitted by email or fax, wherever possible. Postal applications are accepted, but are much slower to process. Please send them to:

Step 2 - Application assessed and letter of offer sent
You will be advised by the Admissions Officer that your application has been received, or if the application is incomplete or unclear.
The application will be assessed and, if successful, an offer package will be sent within 5 working days of receipt. This package will include:
Letter of offer
Payment advice form
Acceptance form
Conditions of placement
Refund policy
Welfare letter, stating that GETI will undertake welfare arrangements for students who are under 18 years of age (unless a relative living in Tasmania has been nominated as guardian)
English test waiver (Chinese students only)
We prefer to email the offer package as a pdf document, or to send it by fax. Please confirm that you have received the offer package. Hardcopies of the offer package can be posted, on request.
If you are coming to Tasmania on a student visa, your letter of offer will include details of your compulsory private health cover, including the amount payable. GETI Tasmania organises this insurance. After all fees have been paid and once a student’s arrival date has been confirmed, GETI Tasmania will arrange the insurance.
Step 3 - Return acceptance forms and make payment
To accept the offer, make sure you and your parents understand the conditions of placement and the refund policy, and then send the following documents to us:
Acceptance form, signed by yourself and/or your parents/guardian
Payment advice form, with payment details
For Assessment Level 3 and 4 students, a pre-visa assessment approval letter (please indicate if e-visa is used).
If you will be staying with a local relative ac ting as your guardian, please provide a letter from your parents confirming the guardianship arrangement.
GETI requires that all fees must be paid in full prior to starting your studies.
Click here ( link ) for details on how you can make a payment.
Step 4 - Confirmation of enrolment, arrival and homestay arrangements
When we have received the signed acceptance forms and payment, we will issue the confirmation of enrolment (CoE) and a confirmation of appropriate accommodation and welfare (CAAW), if you are under 18. These will be sent by email.
To ensure this is a smooth process, make sure you have given us your passport number. If you are still waiting for your passport, inform us and forward a copy as soon as possible.
Once the confirmation of enrolment has been issued, you can apply for a student visa and compulsory health insurance. Students on a visitor visa will need to make their own arrangements for insurance and provide GETI with proof of cover.
Homestay details will be provided two weeks prior to departure from your country, where possible. Please note that homestay cannot be arranged before payment is received.
When booking your flights, if you are under 18 and have had a CAAW issued you may not arrive earlier than 7 days before the commencement of your course, or depart later than 7 days after their course finishes.
As a free service for all new students, a GETI representative can meet you at the airport in Tasmania and transport you to your accommodation. You must tell us if you request this service and provide your flight details in advance.
