Apply to the Tasmanian Polytechnic

If you've decided to study at the Tasmanian Polytechnic - welcome! Tasmania is a great place to live and study.

You can apply to us directly, or if you prefer you can use the services of a professional study agent. It is up to you.

Once you have chosen a course to enrol in, you should complete our application form:

Tasmanian Polytechnic Application Form 2012.pdf

Please make sure that you have completed every section in English, attached all the extra documents you need, and that you have signed the form.

Here are a few important things to remember:

  • You must be over 18 to study at the Tasmanian Polytechnic.
  • Make sure you understand the level of English required for your course.
  • The requirements for receiving a student visa are set by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
The following steps will guide you through the application process.

Step 1 - Submit the application form

Depending on your application, you will need to attach some or all of the following documents:

  • Current year academic report / academic report from previous year
  • A personal resume, or details of work experience and employers’ references (if available).
  • A copy of the front page of your current passport. If you do not have a passport yet, please let us know.
  • A copy of your visa, if you are applying from within Australia.
  • Your English language results

Please indicate if you wish to use a GETI-approved homestay for accommodation.

All applications and correspondence must be submitted by email or fax, wherever possible. Postal applications are accepted, but are much slower to process. Please send them to:

Fax: +61 3 6233 7839
Email: info@geti.tas.gov.au

Step 2 - Application is assessed and Letter of Offer sent

You will be advised by the Admissions Officer that your application has been received, or if the application is incomplete or unclear.

Applications are assessed on English language level, previous academic results and (if relevant) previous work experience. Some courses may have extra requirements, which are noted in the course listing. It is up to you to be aware of these requirements.

If successful, an Offer Package will be sent within 5 working days of receipt. This will include:

  • Letter of Offer
  • Payment advice form
  • Acceptance form
  • Conditions of placement
  • Refund policy

We prefer to email the Offer Package as a pdf document, or to send it by fax. Hardcopies can be posted, on request. Please confirm that you have received the Offer Package.

If you are applying to do some English studies before starting your main course, this will be included on the Letter of Offer.

If you will be coming to Tasmania on a student visa, your Letter of Offer will include details of your compulsory private health cover, including the amount payable. GETI Tasmania will organise this insurance for you after all fees have been paid and once your arrival date has been confirmed.

Step 3 - Make payment and return acceptance forms

GETI Tasmania requires that payment for the first semester's tuition fees at the Tasmanian Polytechnic is received in full, along with a 10% deposit on fees for the second semester, before classes start. If you are doing a General English course, full payment for this course is also required up front.

Make sure that you understand our conditions of placement and the refund policy, and then send the following documents to us:

  • Acceptance form, signed by yourself and/or your parents/guardian
  • Payment advice form, with payment details

We will not issue Confirmation of Enrolment letters without the return of these completed and signed forms.

Step 4 - Confirmation of Enrolment, arrival and homestay arrangements

When we have received the signed acceptance forms and payment, we will issue the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

Once the CoE has been issued, you can apply for the student visa and compulsory health insurance. Students on a visitor visa will need to make their own arrangements for insurance and provide GETI with proof of cover.

If you have requested a homestay, the details of your homestay will be provided two weeks prior to departure from your country, where possible. Please note that homestay cannot be arranged before payment is received.

As a free service for all new students, a GETI representative can meet you at the airport in Tasmania and transport you to your accommodation. You must tell us if you need this service and provide your flight details in advance.
