Pathways from the Tasmanian Polytechnic to University of Tasmania
If you plan to go to university, pathways from the Tasmanian Polytechnic to the University of Tasmania can give you credit towards your degree.
These package offers can provide articulation from the Tasmanian Polytechnic to the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in certain subject areas. So your university degree is achieved more quickly and the cost of your university studies is cheaper.
Studying at the Tasmanian Polytechnic before university is also a good way of improving your marks so you can apply for the degree you really want.
You do not have to apply for one of these pathways before you start studying in Tasmania. As you approach the end of your course at the Tasmanian Polytechnic, you can then choose to use a pathway, if you wish.
If you want to, you can apply for a package offer for both the Tasmanian Polytechnic and UTAS. It might even help you to have a plan for your studies.
A full list and explanation of all the package offers is available here ( link ). Carefully read through the information and make sure you understand the course you are applying for and any prerequisites associated with the course.

Carefully read through the course information available on this website. Make sure you understand the course you are applying for and any prerequisites associated with the course.
Be aware that the courses you can choose from may be limited, depending on which country you are from. This will have a direct effect on whether or not you are granted a student visa. These rules are set by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. To find out your country’s student visa requirements visit their website ( link: http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/ ).
Most courses at the Tasmanian Polytechnic have a minimum IELTS prerequisite of 5.5, with no band less than 5.0, for entry. In addition, to be accepted for study at the University of Tasmania, you must have an IELTS test result of 6.0, with no band less than 5.5. However, some courses will have a higher requirement and these may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to check these details.
If you have an IELTS of 5.0 or lower, you must apply for an ELICOS program from the University of Tasmania as a part of your package offer. This ELICOS program will be for a minimum of 10 weeks at the UTAS English Language Centre, prior to commencing studies at the Tasmanian Polytechnic.
Depending on what country you are from, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship may require you to submit a recent IELTS test result as part of your application for a student visa. More information is available here: http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/students.htm

If you are applying to do an ELICOS course prior to your mainstream studies, this will be included on the letter of offer.
If you are coming to Tasmania on a student visa, your letter of offer will include details of your compulsory private health cover, including the amount payable. GETI Tasmania organises this insurance. After all fees have been paid and once a student’s arrival date has been confirmed, GETI Tasmania will arrange the insurance.
Step 4 - Return acceptance forms and make payment
To accept the offers, make sure you understand both GETI Tasmania’s and the University of Tasmania’s conditions of placement and refund policy, and then send the following documents to us:
Acceptance form, signed by yourself and/or your parents/guardian
Payment advice form, with payment details
For Assessment Level 3 and 4 students, a pre-visa assessment approval letter (please indicate if e-visa is used).
We will not issue confirmation of enrolment letters without the return of these completed and signed forms.
n addition, if you are undertaking an ELICOS course, payment is required in full before classes commence.
GETI requires that payment is received in full for the first semester’s tuition fees at the Tasmanian Polytechnic, along with a 10% deposit on fees for the second semester, before classes commence. In addition, if you are undertaking an ELICOS course, payment is required in full before classes commence.
Click here ( link ) for details of how you can make a payment.
Step 5 - Confirmation of enrolment, arrival and homestay arrangements
Confirmation of enrolment (CoE) is provided separately from the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Polytechnic. These will not be issued until each has received their separate acceptance forms and relevant payments. CoE will be sent by email.
To ensure this is a smooth process, make sure you have given us your passport number. If you are still waiting for your passport, inform us and forward a copy as soon as possible.
Once the CoE has been issued, you can apply for the student’s visa ( link ) and compulsory health insurance ( link ). Students on a visitor visa will need to make their own arrangements for insurance and provide GETI with proof of cover.
If you have requested a homestay, the details of your homestay will be provided two weeks prior to departure from your country, where possible. Please note that homestay cannot be arranged before payment is received.
As a free service for all new students, a GETI representative can meet you at the airport in Tasmania and transport you to your accommodation. You must tell us if you request this service and provide your flight details in advance.
