Arrival and orientation

Double check your course start date

You should plan to arrive at least two days before your course starts, to give yourself a chance to recover from any jetlag and to start settling in to your new home.

If you are under 18 years of age and studying at a Tasmanian Government school, you may arrive in Tasmania a maximum of one week before the start of your course. GETI Tasmania’s guardianship arrangements only take affect from this time. If you are over 18 or studying at the Tasmanian Polytechnic, this is not a concern.

Orientation session

Each school and campus has an International Student Adviser (ISA) to help students with any aspect of their stay and studies in Tasmania. Every student will have an orientation session with their ISA. This will help you to feel welcome and comfortable.

If you have any problems, either personal or about your studies, the ISAs are there to help. They can talk about a wide range of subjects, from culture shock to opening a bank account. It is very important for you to keep in regular contact with your ISA, particularly if you are experiencing any difficulties with your life or study. You should never be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help.
