Dependent students are international students who enrol in Tasmanian Government Schools and Senior Secondary Colleges, while living with their family or a guardian who are in Australia to work, study or are in the process of migrating. This includes parents and guardians on:
Just like Australian students, dependent students normally study at the government school that is nearest to their Tasmanian residential address. Dependent students are usually required to pay tuition fees for their time in Tasmanian Government schools, but the fees and the application process are different to that of other international students.
Whether or not they have to pay fees will depend on what kind of visa their parent or guardian holds. These rules are set by Australia’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Dependent students who are over 18 may enrol in the Tasmanian Polytechnic, but only as full fee paying students.
