In Australia, each State and Territory has historically set its own dates for the academic year and school terms. For many years, Tasmania has had three school terms, with each term being of slightly different length. However, as part of a continuing trend towards a national, uniform education system, in 2013 Tasmania will change to four school terms, with each being ten weeks long.
